The rules for operating public baths will become stricter starting from March 2024!

New regulation for the establishment and operation of public baths in Hungary: Starting from March 19, 2024, a new government decree will require operators to create a “public health and technological regulation.” (510/2023. (XI. 20.) Government Decree on the establishment and operation of public baths.)

The regulation must be approved by the Health Department of the Government Offices, and only after that can the bath legally operate. Previous regulations and workflows will need to be updated, as the new law modifies several pool water quality limits. For example, the free active chlorine level has been adjusted, while the pH level remains unchanged.

For the first time in Hungary, baths have been classified. Based on this classification, we can now decide how frequently water quality tests need to be conducted at each facility. The decree also sets a deadline for the installation of automatic chemical dosing systems in every bath, replacing manual dosing.
